الخرج من أهم واحات وسط الجزيرة، ولا يمكن فهم اليمامة والعارض دونها. العيون والمياه صنعت فيها استقراراً زراعياً عميقاً، وربطتها بطرق داخلية نحو الرياض والأفلاج ووادي الدواسر.
