بعد وفاة النبي ﷺ ارتدّت قبائل كثيرة ومنعت الزكاة، فزحف بعضها نحو المدينة. عند ذي القصة والأبرق شرق المدينة ردّ أبو بكر الصدّيق هجومها بنفسه على رأس أهل المدينة، ثم جهّز جيوش الردّة الأحد عشر بقيادة خالد بن الوليد وغيره لإخماد الردّة في نجد واليمامة والبحرين واليمن. كانت هذه أول شرارة في حسم مصير الدولة الوليدة.
