About the product
Every place holds a memory
We turn history scattered across books, documents, photographs, and oral accounts into connected knowledge that begins with place.
How did the idea take shape?
How many stories have we passed without knowing they happened here?
Across Saudi Arabia, places are tied to events, people, roads, accounts, and evidence that shaped their memory over centuries. Yet much of that memory remains dispersed across books, documents, photographs, old maps, oral histories, and digital sources.
Saudi Memory Map grew from this gap: a cultural technology product that gathers memory around place and turns fragmented historical knowledge into an experience everyone can explore and understand.
Our goal is not to display more information, but to build a deeper understanding of the relationship between place, event, and people.
More than a map
Place is the doorway, not the end of the story
We build a knowledge network that preserves the identity of each element and reveals their relationships, without turning everything with coordinates into another duplicate pin.
Place
A persistent geographic identity carrying the memory linked to it.
Event
What happened at a specific time and connects to one or more places.
Person
A historical actor connected through events and evidence.
Source
Evidence that supports an account and reveals its provenance.
Route
Movement through time and place, not merely a list of stops.
Story
An editorial narrative that brings the elements into focus.
Why now?
AI made work at this scale possible
A single fact once demanded long manual searches across many sources. AI now helps the team work at this breadth without replacing the researcher or historian.
Read and index
Process and organise large bodies of source material.
Extract and connect
Identify places, events, people, and their relationships.
Compare accounts
Surface agreement, contradiction, and duplication.
Assist editors
Support organisation, summaries, translation, and drafting.
Natural access
Let visitors ask and reach knowledge more easily.
Quality signals
Find claims that lack a source or need deeper review.
AI proposes and assists. People review and approve.
We do not treat a model as an independent historian or an authority on truth. Historical material must pass through clear sources and accountable human review before publication.
Honesty before false certainty
Three questions we never collapse
An event can be well attested while its location is uncertain; a known place can still be unready for visitors. We disclose each dimension clearly.
Historical confidence
How strong are the account and its sources?
Spatial accuracy
How precisely can it be placed on the map?
Visit readiness
Can the place be reached safely today?
Who is it for?
A national memory in every generation’s language
Citizens and visitors
Discover the memory of a city, region, and place.
Students and researchers
Reach relationships, sources, and historical context.
The cultural sector
Connect museums, guides, and cultural experiences to a wider story.
