Why visit?
From this narrow cave the message began. Jabal al-Nour is not a hike only—it is the geography of the first revelation, unforgettable for visitors to Makkah.
A few kilometres northeast of the Sacred Mosque rises Jabal al-Nour; near its summit lies the small cleft of Hira. The greatest beginning came from the narrowest place.
Retreat before the mission
The Prophet ﷺ spent days each year in tahannuth at Hira before revelation. There Jibril brought the first words of the Qur’an: ‘Read in the name of your Lord who created.’
Mountain of Light
Named for the light of prophethood, the mountain rises roughly six hundred metres. The climb is steep; visitors come in large numbers and should respect both safety and sanctity. It lies about four to five kilometres northeast of the Haram.
Memory, not excess
Visiting Hira recalls the start of revelation; it is not a rite replacing hajj or umrah. On the memory map, the cave completes Makkah: the House in the valley, the Word on the peak.
