Jabal Balum, closely associated with the massif also called Bulo'um, rises above Wadi Naam near al-Hariq governorate جنوب Riyadh in the historic al-Yamama district. The peak split from the main Tuwaiq chain and for centuries served travelers coming from southern Najd toward al-Hawtah and al-Hariq as a fixed point in a demanding terrain.
Its rocks display extraordinary color variation, with as many as fifteen hues visible within a single square meter, alongside transparent quartz crystals that locals call "desert diamonds" for their clarity and luster. Ancient rock engravings have been discovered near the mountain, and the historic Hanidhah well lies close by, linking the summit to the water economy of the surrounding wadis.
Jabal Balum therefore combines wayfinding, mineral curiosity, and prehistoric art in one al-Yamama landmark, continuing to attract geologists, historians, and visitors drawn to the southern gates of the Tuwaiq.
