Wadi Ushi, also known as Wadi Ashi, lies north of the Tuwaiq mountains in the Sudair district of Riyadh Province. It is an important tributary of Wadi al-Mishqar; where the two meet the combined valley was historically called Wadi al-Majmaah, known in earlier sources as Manikhah. The wadi flourished as a significant settlement during the Umayyad period and the third century AH, when it possessed a minbar for prayer and preaching, a sign of its scale and religious importance.
Classical geographical sources record that pilgrims coming from the Qariyatayn region, near modern Unayzah, encountered Ushi's minbar as the first pulpit on their route toward al-Yamama, stopping here before continuing east. The Umayyad poet Ziyad ibn Muqadd al-Adawi al-Tamimi sang its virtues in enduring verse, declaring his preference for Ushi over the Yemeni city of Sanaa.
Wadi Ushi thus stands as a Sudair landmark where architecture, pilgrimage logistics, and elite Arabic poetry converged, preserving the memory of a prosperous valley on the northern flank of the Najdi plateau.
