Why visit?

Tayma links Najd to Mesopotamia through trade and politics. Its wall, inscriptions, and wells prove northern Arabia was an imperial stage, not a forgotten margin.

In northwest Saudi Arabia, Tayma stands as an oasis city named in Babylonian memory and Arabian stone. The great enclosure wall—the Dair—marks a true city project, not a passing camp.

Wall and water

A vast circuit wall protected gardens, wells, and quarters. The oasis sustained caravans linking the Gulf, Levant, and Iraq to Hejaz gates.

Nabonidus

In the sixth century BCE Tayma is tied to Nabonidus, last king of Babylon, who sojourned in the region. Excavations reveal long occupation layers.

On the map

With AlUla, Khaybar, and Dumat al-Jandal, Tayma anchors the northern archaeological story: trade, empires, and later Islamic roads—built around water as much as around power.
